Two trucks hit power lines, one driver shocked

Power lines sagging over Route 95 created a dangerous situation in Attleboro, MA, on Aug. 16 when a truck traveling north and another truck traveling south struck the power lines just after 3 p.m.

The northbound driver, Joseph O. Irorere, 45, of Brockton, MA, exited his 2001 Mack truck and received an electrical shock. He was taken to the hospital. His condition is unknown. The southbound driver of a 2004 Volvo truck, 55-year-old David Meltz, of Prospect Hill, NC, was not injured, according to police.
“The preliminary investigation indicated the wires sagged as a result of a structural issue on a utility pole set back from the highway,” said David Procopio, spokesperson for the Massachusetts State Police.
“Land Line Now” reported that power company National Grid said, “It will take some time to figure out why the power lines were sagging so low.” The company had been doing pole replacement in the area.
The highway was shut down for about two hours after the incident. The Massachusetts State Police reported at least four passenger cars were also damaged.
