A new welcome center on Interstate 91 in Hartford, VT, opened on Monday, Oct. 1, which is welcome news for truckers and motorists traveling south through the state.

The new site cost approximately $4.1 million and was built with a congressional earmark. The welcome center will stay open 365 days per year from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

He said the new site has 10 truck parking spaces and that the parking areas will remain open 24 hours a day for truckers needing to stop and rest.

The site has free WiFi and complimentary coffee for those stopping at the welcome center in Hartford.

“These facilities are critical to safety on our highways,” said Brian Searles, secretary of the Vermont Agency of Transportation. “Drivers of passenger vehicles and truck drivers all need safe places to pull over to rest while traveling our interstate network. Rest areas are particularly important as a safe haven during inclement weather.”
