A truck driver retrieving a lost drive shaft was struck and killed by a car just before 9 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25, in Sugar Land, TX.
Alfredo Balmore-Diaz, 53, was driving a car hauler when a rear axle locked and threw the drive shaft onto the highway, Officer Jonathan Sipe told Land Line.
Balmore-Diaz parked safely on the shoulder on U.S. 59 South near Grand Parkway, and then took a flashlight to find the drive shaft on a dark portion of the highway. Witnesses told police Balmore-Diaz was bent over rolling the driveshaft across the right lane when he was struck.
Balmore-Diaz was from El Salvador, but had a Houston identification card and Houston address, according to Sipe. He transported salvaged cars from Houston to El Salvador.
